Course Syllabus
- TITLE OF COURSE: - BT1023 - Intermediate Keyboarding
- COURSE DESCRIPTION:Three credit hours of lecture. A continuation of Beginning Keyboarding/ Formatting (AP 1113) or Refresher Keyboarding (AP 1123). More emphasis is placed on speed building, letter and table formatting, business forms, and other production problems. Prerequisite: A beginning keyboarding/typewriting course. For each unit of
credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and
two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.
- DIVISION/DEPT/PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT:The mission of the Administrative Professionals program is consistent with the mission of Seward County Community College. The program will provide students with quality learning opportunities and experiences to meet the diverse, changing needs for the development of better futures.
- TEXTBOOK AND MATERIALS:
- Gregg College Keyboarding & Document Processing 11th Edition, Ober, Johnson, Zimmerly, McGraw-Hill
- The student will need a flashdrive for document storage.
- SCCC/ATS OUTCOMES: Students who successfully complete this course will demonstrate the ability to fulfill the following SCCC/ATS Outcomes:

- GENERAL COURSE OUTCOMES/COMPETENCIES:Upon acceptable completion of the course competencies and an average of 85 percent or higher on mastery assessments, the student will be able to:
- Develop ability to use equipment properly by
- Identifying the basic parts of the typewriter/computer;
- Operating the typewriter/computer using proper techniques
- Develop proficiency/speed on the computer/typewriter through
- Demonstrating the ability to keyboard by touch;
- Keying a minimum of 40 wpm for 5 minutes with no more than 5 errors;
- Identifying and formatting various styles of business letters using rules of mail ability;
- Identifying traditional and special letter parts;
- Comparing standard and open styles of punctuation;
- Formatting memos and business reports;
- Formatting news releases, magazine articles, and specialized reports;
- Centering tables and tabulated materials;
- Formatting special forms;
- Proofreading accurately.
- Utilize proper language arts rules.
- TOPICAL COURSE OUTLINE:
- Using the Equipment/Software
- Building Speed and Accuracy
- Keying by touch;
- Accuracy and speed drills;
- Formatting one- and two-page business letters in various styles;
- Learning placement of special letter parts;
- Formatting memos in standard and simplified styles;
- Composing at the keyboard;
- Formatting tabulated documents;
- Formatting one- and multiple-page unbound and bound reports/manuscripts;
- Formatting specialized reports;
- Formatting special forms;
- Formatting envelopes;
- Developing proofreading skills.
- Improve Language Arts Skills through:
- Recognizing spelling errors and correcting them;
- Using correct punctuation, syllabication, capitalization, and word division.

- Measurement of SCCC/ATS Outcomes will be assessed as follows:
- Outcome #3: The assessments will be the daily hands-on assignments.
- Outcome #4: The assessments will be on projects requiring the student to exercise decision making skills to complete time sensitive projects.
- Outcome #5: The assessments will be the unit projects.
